What is Marijuana?
Marijuana is usually a greenish plant, although some strains may differ in color. Marijuana is usually separated from the seeds and stems prior to smoking or eating. There are lots of different names for marijuana including weed, pot, herb, reefer, grass, ganja, and Mary Jane.
There are various ways to ingest marijuana such as smoking a marijuana cigarette (also known as a joint or spliff) or using a pipe or water bong. There are also various forms of marijuana; one example is hashish which is made by compressing the marijuana crystals (Kief) into a solid form similar to the consistency of clay. These days marijuana users may empty and use cigars or blunt wraps (cigar rolling papers) to roll their own marijuana cigars (blunts). It is also very common to eat marijuana inside of Brownies, teas, or other edible foods. A newer and healthier method of consumption can be found through vaporizing marijuana which is heating the marijuana to a temperature hot enough to release THC vapor but not hot enough to burn or release carcinogens.
THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is the active ingredient in marijuana. Since the active ingredient THC produces the effects of marijuana, higher levels of THC will produce stronger effects. Despite marijuana being illegal in many parts of the world, it continues to be bought and sold globally. Italian researches have seen evidence in lab animals showing cancer cell growth is inhibited by a chemical found in marijuana. In some U.S. states laws allow doctors to prescribe patients medical marijuana for pain, nausea, and many other ailments. Unfortunately the U.S. government continues to raid medical marijuana shops and homes of the terminally ill in its fight to win the war on drugs. It is estimated that a good portion of the marijuana circulating throughout the United States is grown in indoor gardens, often in one's closet, spare room, basement or attic.
